Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle

A new Tourism Queensland campaign encouraging Australians to spend their federal government bonus on a Queensland holiday kicks off this weekend.
Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said the “Bonus Breaks” campaign offered a range of fantastic Queensland holiday deals across the state ranging from free nights to room upgrades, breakfasts, transfers, discount vouchers and ‘buy one, get one free’ offers for a range of tours.
“There is so much pressure and stress around at the moment, what better time to escape and relax for a few days,” Ms Boyle said.
“The best way to reduce the stress levels is to take a holiday and Queensland’s tourism industry has worked together to come up with 158 short break deals and offers.
“The federal government is encouraging us to spend our bonus, so booking a Queensland Bonus Break holiday will have the double benefit of offering Australians an affordable getaway and injecting some much-needed cash into our local tourism industry.”
Ms Boyle said Tourism Queensland had worked with Flight Centre, Virgin Blue and more than 150 Queensland tourism operators from across the state to develop some amazing deals starting from $129 per person for three nights on the Sunshine Coast, $165 per person for three nights on the Gold Coast, $399 per person for three nights in Tropical North Queensland, including airfares, and $615 per person for four nights in the Whitsundays including airfares.
The four week campaign, which begins this Sunday, will primarily target Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne holidaymakers through a range of television and print advertisements and through Flight Centre stores nationally.
More than 50,000 southern households will also receive a special “bonus offer” in their letterboxes later this month.
“Our tourism industry is currently facing one of its most challenging times and Tourism Queensland has helped pull some fantastic deals together to get more bums on seats and more heads in beds right now when tourism operators need it most,” Ms Boyle said.
"More than 119,000 Queenslanders are directly employed in the tourism industry, mostly in small businesses, so it’s important that we do all we can to protect their jobs during these tough economic times.
“The bonus is that Australian holidaymakers will be able to get some fantastic value-for-money holiday deals in some of the state’s best destinations.
“We are pulling out all the stops to encourage Australians to spend their bonus on a Queensland holiday,” she said.
The Bonus Breaks deals are on sale from this weekend with travel from now until September.
Tourism Queensland is running the $1.3 million Bonus Breaks campaign in partnership with Flight Centres and Virgin Blue.
