Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Women
The Honourable Margaret Keech
As part of International Women’s Day celebrations some of Queensland’s most influential women today attended Parliament House for the launch of a Q150 online women’s pictorial history.
Minister for Women Margaret Keech said the interactive pictorial history highlighted the long line of women who have helped achieve change and progress since the State’s birth.
“With Queensland celebrating 150 years of independence in 2009, International Women’s Day is an ideal time to reflect on our past and consider our future,” Mrs Keech said.
“The online history is interactive and features images and information about outstanding Queensland women and their achievements from the past 150 years.
“The site also features a section of images of everyday women since Queensland became a State.
“All Queenslanders can contribute submitting images and recommending women they think should be included in this important online pictorial history.
Mrs Keech said the pictorial history aimed to inspire Queensland women to consider how they will help shape Queensland’s strong future, by reflecting on past events and achievements.
“The Bligh Government’s Toward Q2 strategy is creating a fairer Queensland,” Mrs Keech said
“As we look to the future, I encourage us all to take inspiration from the women who have come before us and to whom we are indebted for the lifestyle we all enjoy today.
“On International Women’s Day this Sunday, I urge all Queenslanders to take a moment to experience the journey of ‘Our Women, Our State’ by visiting the pictorial history.”
The pictorial history is now available on the Office for Women’s website at www.women.qld.gov.au/q150.
