The Honourable Judy Spence

Police Minister Judy Spence today officially opened the $5.4 Million Cloncurry Police Station, boosting police resources in the Northern Police region.

Ms Spence said: “This new station is a significant investment in the future of policing in Cloncurry and another example of the Bligh Government’s commitment to ensuring Queensland remains a safe place to live and raise a family.

“The station includes two new interview rooms, three holding cells, duty officer accommodation, general duties area, foyer, reception, major incident room and charging area,” she said.

“The station is staffed by general duties officers, the Criminal Investigation Branch, Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad, the Traffic Branch and Police Liaison Officers.

“The police will receive support from Mount Isa Scenes of Crime and the Child Protection Investigation Unit.

“Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Ross Kirkpatrick has been working within the Mount Isa Police District since June 2001.

“With experience as a Senior Constable at Mount Isa Station and as Officer-in-Charge of Camooweal Station, he has the skills and experience required to serve the people of Cloncurry.

Ms Spence said Queensland spent more than $160 Million on police capital expenditure last year alone, almost three times the national average.

“Since the beginning of last year in the Northern Police region, I have opened the $1.7 Million Police Beat at the Strand in Townsville, the $5.5 Million replacement station at Stuart and next week I will open the new $9.25 Million Ayr Police Station,” she said.

“The Bligh Government will continue to work with local communities to ensure we provide the facilities and services they need for Tomorrow’s Queensland.

The new Cloncurry police station is located 35 Scarr Street, Cloncurry.
