Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Rod Welford
Education and Training Minister Rod Welford today inspected new facilities at Redlynch State College, built at a cost of $20.7 million.
Mr Welford, who visited the school with Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall, said the facilities were part of Stage Three works.
“These new facilities opened for the start of the 2009 school year, and they include state-of-the-art creative arts and media centres, as well as remodelled performing arts, science and manual arts learning areas,” Mr Welford said.
“The school has also received a senior science centre, junior, middle and senior school staff development centres, an oval extension and staff car park.
”Work is still underway on a $3.8 million sports facility for the school, which will also double as a cyclone shelter.
“Scheduled to be finished by mid-2009, the covered sports facility will have a single basketball court enclosed by cyclone-proof walls and windows.”
Mr Wettenhall welcomed the new facilities at Redlynch State College.
“Redlynch State College opened in 2007 as a middle school,” Mr Wettenhall said.
“The school has expanded over the past two years and now offers classes in Prep to Year 10, with an enrolment of 1284 students this year.
“By 2011 the school will have students in all year levels – Prep to Year 12.
“These new facilities will greatly improve the educational environment for the students at Redlynch State College and allow for continued enrolment growth as the school expands.”
Mr Welford acknowledged the Federal Government’s contribution of $8 million towards the cost of the works.
Mr Welford said the Bligh Government allocated $532 million in the 2008-09 State Budget to continue to modernise and build schools across Queensland.
