Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
Two deployments of Queensland firefighters who have been assisting with the bushfire effort in Victoria have returned to Brisbane today.
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said he was delighted the 35 officers had returned safely to their home state.
“These officers have been based at Belgrave and have been engaged in incident management roles, relieving tired Victorian officers who have been fighting bushfires now for close to three weeks.
“Our Queensland officers have demonstrated their professionalism, dedication and willingness to help their Victorian counterparts and on behalf of all Queenslanders I would like to say thanks.”
Mr Roberts said the bushfire threat in Victoria had still not passed and another deployment of 36 Queensland firefighters would head to Victoria tomorrow to replace the returning crews.
“This latest deployment has been drawn from every region in Queensland,” Mr Roberts said.
“They will be based at Belgrave and Wangaratta and will be utilised in a similar role as the first two deployments, in incident management roles.
“At this stage they are expected to return home on March 8.”
