Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence
Police Minister Judy Spence today said that QBuild were finalising work on the new $2.14 Million Super Learning Centre at the Police Academy and that the Centre would be completed by mid-March.
Ms Spence said the new facilities, which will accommodate two classrooms, three meeting rooms and office space, will boost capacity at the Academy.
“The new facilities will increase the capacity at the Academy, allowing it to train an additional 50 to 70 police recruits each year,” Ms Spence said.
“The Bligh Government is committed to increasing police numbers. The increased capacity will ensure we can continue to meet that commitment,” Ms Spence said.
Police Minister Judy Spence said the Queensland Police Service will have 10,000 police on Queensland’s streets for the first time in the State’s history this week.
“During this term of Government we have increased the size of the Queensland Police Service by around 650 police. These police have contributed to the 24 per cent fall in the overall crime rate across Queensland in the past seven years.
“The new facilities will accommodate future growth and ensure that Queensland remains a safe place to live and raise family,” Ms Spence said.
The new classroom space will be used to house recruits entering the service through the Police Recruit Operational Vocational Education (PROVE) Program. PROVE recruits are recruits with higher education qualifications or equivalent employment experience.
