The Honourable Judy Spence

Crime prevention efforts in Oxley received a boost today with the launch of regular local crime bulletins from police to members of the community.

Police Minister Judy Spence said the launch of the new Oxley Police District Crime Bulletin marked a new era in police-community partnerships in Oxley as the district became the 15th in Queensland to adopt a local crime bulletin.

Electronic crime bulletins are now distributed to more than 200,000 people across the state.

“The crime bulletin is an electronic newsletter that includes information about crime prevention and details of offences police are seeking information about,” Ms Spence said.

“The crime bulletins will provide subscribers with a range of strategies to prevent crime and increase community safety.

“This is a great initiative for the community, who are now able to stay informed and connected with the community at the click of a mouse,” she said.

Ms Spence said she expects the crime bulletins, which will replace Neighbourhood Watch newsletters, will lead to greater community involvement in crime prevention activities.

Member for Inala Anastacia Palaszczuk called on people in the Inala community to get involved in crime prevention throughout the area.

Ms Palaszczuk said: “Our police do an excellent job of fighting crime in our community – but they rely on the support of members of the public to protect themselves against crime and provide vital information to help solve crimes.

“Every Queenslander can play a role in crime prevention, by adopting simple measures to secure their homes and property and to protect themselves.”

The Crime Bulletin is a joint crime prevention initiative involving the Queensland Police Service, Crime Stoppers and the Neighbourhood Watch program.

The initial Oxley Crime Bulletin includes information about break-in offenders, theft offenders and helpful information about how to not become the victim of crime.

The Oxley Crime Bulletin covers Oxley, Inala, Calamvale, Stretton, Acacia Ridge, Sunnybank, Mount Ommaney, Sherwood and Moorooka.
