Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Communities Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr has today announced a funding boost for local organisations to safeguard jobs and ensure services continue for the next three years.
“We know our communities and neighbours are experiencing challenges and tough times, with many people under enormous pressure to look after their loved ones and pay the bills,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“Queenslanders may need help to deal with issues they are facing and that’s what these local organisations are providing – support and services on the ground,” she said.
“These organisations are diverse, offering a range of services from education and training, financial information, migrant support, and referral.
“They also employ staff and volunteers, so the three-year funding will provide job security and enable the organisation to develop their programs.
“By equipping people with personal and life skills and ensuring they have access to a range of supports offered by these organisations, we are building stronger, fairer communities for the future.”
A total of $5.45 million over the next three years is being shared among organisations around the State, including:
Fassifern Community Centre - $83,234 per annum for three years
This service provides support services to Boonah through community-based activities, including community development, community education and training, and volunteer training.
Beaucare Community Development Program – $80,818 per annum for three years
This program runs six satellite networks (Canungra, Mt Tambourine, Logan Village, Beechmont, Jimboomba, and Beaudesert) to develop stronger links between the communities.
Beaucare Child Protection & Family Support Program – $72,625 per annum for three years
This service provides information, referrals and advice. This includes case management, counselling, assistance with overcoming social and geographic isolation. It is also running a visiting service where public transport is not available to residents within the former Beaudesert Shire.
The Illoura Centre – $63,044 per annum for three years
The service supports families with skills development and resources to help them care safely for children and young people. It also supports victims and child witnesses of domestic violence.
