Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
The Bligh Government is delivering for sick Queenslanders with a $886,000 funding support package for seven non-government hospices across the state.
Health Minister Stephen Robertson said the one-off grants would ensure the viability of the hospices to the end of the current financial year.
“These hospices play a vital role for sick Queenslanders and their families,” he said.
“They provide compassionate services for people in their final days, as well as providing families with clinical care, bereavement support and information.
“The Bligh Government has a strong history of working in partnership with the non-government sector to deliver palliative care services.”
Mr Robertson said the hospices to benefit from increased funding were:
- Cittamani Hospice Service Ltd - $76,000
- The Karuna Hospice Service Ltd - $188,150
- Ipswich Hospice Care Inc - $137,415
- Toowoomba Hospice Association - $106,845
- Little Haven Cooloola/Sunshine Coast Palliative Care Inc - $25,810
- Hopewell Hospice Services Inc - $73,745
- Mt Olivet Community Services Ltd - $258,100
“Our growing and ageing population means the demand on these services is growing, and we recognise that in these tough economic times our non-government organisations can suffer first due to a decrease in the donation dollar,” he said.
“We’ll continue to work with non-government palliative care providers to ensure they can maintain their invaluable services for sick Queenslanders.”
