Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
With support from the State Government, Brisbane local and acclaimed classical musician Anthony Garcia is performing a series of solo and collaborative shows on his inaugural tour of Japan this month.
Trade Minister John Mickel said Mr Garcia was renowned as a highly skilled classical musician.
“Anthony is versed in styles such as jazz, Latin folk and popular music, and he will display his talent and versatility in Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka and Nara.
A tour highlight will be a collaborative performance with renowned Japanese Shakuhachi Master Mr Kifu Mitsuhashi.
“Anthony’s performance with Mr Kifu Mitsuhashi will take place in an ancient temple located in Kobe and it will premier “Four Sketches”, a piece Anthony wrote in 2007 for guitar and Japanese flute style instrument, the shakuhachi.
“This tour promises to be a testament to the versatility of a true Queensland musical talent,” Mr Mickel said.
The tour, supported by Austrade, complements Trade Queensland’s initiatives to secure performance exposure for Queensland artists overseas.
Japan is a key export market as part of the Queensland Music Export Strategy (QMEx) and Trade Queensland will continue to promote Queensland music in Japan and other key markets throughout 2009.
