The Honourable Anna Bligh

Premier Anna Bligh has this afternoon confirmed she has received advice from the Member for Chatsworth Chris Bombolas that he will not contest the next state election.

Ms Bligh said she had received written advice from Mr Bombolas at 1.20pm today by fax that he would not stand as a candidate due to health and personal reasons.

“I wish Chris and his family all the best for the future,” Ms Bligh said.

“Chris was a well known figure to the people of the Chatsworth area due to his background as a television presenter prior to the previous state election.

“I had spoken to Chris in recent weeks when he raised doubts about standing and asked him to go away and consider his future in government and get back to me by the end of this week.

“He has today confirmed his decision in writing.

“I accept that decision and understand that he is concerned for his health and that this is a legitimate reason for deciding not to continue with his political career.

“I thank Chris for his service during this past term as the Member for Chatsworth and as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Sport.”

Chris Bombolas will be available today at his electorate office at 3pm.
