Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Five new jobs have been created for Main Roads’ new Logan headquarters, Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said today.
Opening the new offices today (17 February) with Member for Springwood Barbara Stone, Mr Pitt said a total of 25 staff would work out of the new premises, located at 3912 Pacific Motorway in Loganholme.
“Five of these are new positions, which is a great boost for employment in the Logan area,” Mr Pitt said.
“The government’s number one priority is to save jobs during this time of unprecedented global economic hardship and I was delighted to hear these extra jobs have been created.”
Mr Pitt said the new office would help ensure new development in the rapidly growing region was supported by suitable road infrastructure.
“Main Roads is committed to decentralising its services and ensuring decisions are made by those who know best, at a local level,” he said.
“Regions with district offices have specific benefits, such as improved coordination and planning across government, flexibility to respond to growth areas, and opportunities to share resources across regions.
"The regional approach also gives more flexibility to establish additional offices in response to program and growth needs.”
Mr Pitt said significant staff resources had been relocated to Logan.
“There is a local District Director who knows the area, knows the local MPs and local government representatives and, most importantly, can make local decisions. The Logan office will also have officers responsible for local traffic safety, project delivery, land and development management and major projects.”
Member for Springwood Barbara Stone welcomed the new addition to Logan’s thriving business environment.
“Logan is one of the fastest-growing regions in Queensland and the government is committed to ensuring service delivery matches the population and business growth.
“It is even better news that extra jobs have been created with this new office and I welcome them to the Logan community.”
Mr Pitt said the new Logan office building had been recently refurbished to meet high environmental standards.
“All future Queensland Government buildings will be built and operated to these standards as part of the government’s commitment to tackling climate change,” Mr Pitt said.
Mr Pitt said Main Roads reviewed its district boundaries after local government boundaries changed in March 2008, and determined that some adjustments to its structure were needed.
The new office was established in line with changes to the department’s structure.
“Main Roads South Coast Region supports the Gold Coast City Council region through the Gold Coast office, and the Logan City and Scenic Rim Regional council regions are supported by the new Logan office.”
The Logan office will be responsible for several projects including:
·Pacific Motorway upgrade (Gateway to Logan Motorway)
·Mount Lindesay Highway service roads
·Replacement bridges at Running Creek on Running Creek Road
·a new bridge at Wallace Creek on Boonah–Rathdowney Road
·a new pedestrian overpass to connect the Mabel Park State School and High School and
·construction of a new bridge on the Beenleigh Connection Road.
