Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
Community groups in the South Burnett are set to share in a $100,000 windfall which will help fund four important local projects, Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said today.
Government-owned corporation Tarong Energy has provided the funds to a local school, rotary club, sporting and community group through its Community Partnership Fund.
“Our energy government owned organisations play a vital role providing power and jobs to Queenslanders,” Mr Wilson said.
“Tarong Energy has been a real shot in the arm for the people who live and work in the South Burnett. It’s a big jobs generator – all up, around 1200 jobs.
“And this is about even more - it’s about giving back to the local community.”
Mr Wilson said more than $100,000 from the first round of its Community Partnership Fund will go towards a range of health, education and sporting projects in the South Burnett.
• Gumnut Place – $30,000 to set up a laundry service managed by people with disabilities;
• Rotary Club of Murgon - $26,000 towards a Palliative Care Unit at Murgon;
• Tanduringie State School – $25,000 to develop a multipurpose area for students and their families; and
• Kingaroy Senior Soccer Club – $20,000 to extend the amenities building and improve the interior.
Tarong Energy is advertising its next round of grants and a Community Reference Group will meet later next month to evaluate the applications.
