Relief measures bring breathing space for flood victims

Queenslanders affected by recent flooding have been given some breathing space with special concessional arrangements for lodging and paying State taxes.

In State Parliament today, Treasurer Andrew Fraser said flood-affected people and businesses may receive extra time to lodge and pay taxes with the Office of State Revenue.

“Some communities are flat out putting roofs over their heads without the added stress of worrying which bills are due when,” Mr Fraser said.

“On top of that, businesses may have had their records and documents literally turned upside down.

“The State Government understands this, and is offering flood-affected clients options such as extra time to lodge documents or returns, interest-free time to pay and paying off debts in instalments.

“These measures are designed to give people a bit of breathing space to get their paperwork sorted out.

“The State Government initiated similar arrangements after Cyclone Larry. We want to ensure flood-affected Queenslanders have one less thing to worry about during this time.

“Each case will of course be considered on an individual basis, so I urge anyone who believes they have special circumstances to contact the Office of State Revenue immediately.”

Clients who believe flood-related hardship could affect their ability to lodge returns or pay on time should contact the Office of State Revenue now and explain their circumstances.

Clients can contact the Office of State Revenue on 1300 300 734, via email at clientcontactcentre@osr.treasury.qld.gov.au or by visiting an OSR centre in Brisbane, Rockhampton, Townsville or Cairns.
