QLD PARLIAMENT TELLS STATE’S SENATORS TO BACK PM’S $42B PACKAGE
Both sides of Queensland State Parliament this afternoon unanimously called on Queensland’s 12 Senators to pass the Prime Minister’s $42 billion economic stimulus package “without further delay”.
“After initially trying to play politics the Nationals did the right thing and agreed to our motion,” said the Premier.
“Queensland Senators now have no choice but to do as their State requests,” said Ms Bligh.
“I implore our Senators to move quickly and to not delay the package.
“Queensland jobs are at risk and the time to act is now. We cannot wait and watch our building companies fail.
“We’re ready to get the construction projects underway and that means thousands of Queenslanders back into the workforce.
“Enough of the political point-scoring. We do not need any more hold-ups.
“We have $800 million worth of projects in Queensland ready for the green light as soon as the package is passed.
“That means upon the Senate’s tick-off we can get on with the; school projects, housing projects, Black Spot Program and the level-crossing program, and consumers can start spending in retail, hospitality, tourism and other industries that need a shot in the arm.
“No more dilly-dallying. We expect our 12 Queensland Senators to do the right thing and right now,” she said.
