JOINT STATEMENT
Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence
Premier
The Honourable Anna Bligh
QUEENSLAND POLICE FLY TO VICTORIA’S AID
Queensland Police have deployed two teams of forensic specialists to assist Victorian authorities in the gruelling task of identifying those who lost their lives in the ongoing bushfire tragedy.
Premier Anna Bligh said the eight officers on their way to Victoria tonight were the same teams sent to help authorities following the tragic Bali bombings in 2002.
“The extraordinary disaster unfolding in regional Victoria has shocked the nation,” Ms Bligh said.
“Queensland stands at the ready to provide any assistance and support we can and have dispatched the forensic teams immediately upon receiving the request from Victorian Police.
“They will be on the ground tonight.”
Police Minister Judy Spence said the forensic teams were renowned as some of Australia’s best.
“Each team includes three police forensic specialists and a police photographer,” Ms Spence said.
“Their expertise in forensics is unquestioned,” she said.
