Intersection improvements complete for 8 Mile intersection
Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese and Queensland Main Roads Minister, Warren Pitt, today announced that vital safety improvements at the 8 Mile intersection near Warwick would be completed this week after nine months of construction.
Mr Albanese said safety works at the intersection, which joins the Cunningham and New England highways, would increase safety and efficiency for motorists travelling through the Darling Downs region.
“The Australian Government allocated $4.25 million to implement a range of priority safety improvements at the intersection that were recommended in an independent safety audit,” Mr Albanese said.
“Following a safety audit conducted by traffic engineers, recommendations were developed to undertake works to address immediate safety concerns.”
Mr Pitt said the intersection safety works commenced in March 2008 and included improving the visibility of the intersection on the Toowoomba approach to the intersection.”
“Other works involved improving the Toowoomba exit from Warwick, reshaping traffic islands, as well as improvements to overhead lighting, line marking and signage.”
“Complementing the intersection works, turning lanes have been reconfigured and widened along with safety improvements to the nearby T intersections at Nolans and Willowvale roads.”
“I’d like to thank local motorists and the travelling public for their patience during the construction works,” Mr Pitt said.
Main Roads’ construction arm, RoadTek, was contracted to construct the safety improvements.
