$1 million to support Gladstone’s homeless young people

Communities Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr has today announced $1 million to support homeless youth in the Gladstone region under a $4.1 million funding package for Central Queensland.

Ms Nelson-Carr said Roseberry Community Services would receive the funding over three years to support its outreach service for young people in Gladstone and Calliope, as well as short-term crisis accommodation for up to six homeless youths at any one time.

“Roseberry Youth Service will receive a total of $109,044 while Roseberry House will receive $927,978, demonstrating the Bligh Government’s ongoing support for community services across the region,” she said.

“Young people experiencing homelessness are particularly vulnerable, so it’s important they know they can rely on local organisations to help protect them and put a roof over their head.”

The funding is part of a three-year Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) package, helping to provide safe and secure accommodation and support services for Central Queenslanders who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

“From homeless youth in Gladstone to victims of domestic violence in Longreach, this $4.1 million funding package will support vital community services and help Queenslanders in their greatest times of need,” said the Minister.

The SAAP program is funded jointly by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments to provide transitional supported accommodation and related support services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
