Q150 display to celebrate 150 years of nursing & medical history

Queensland Health’s nursing and medical history will be showcased from next week in a travelling display to mark the state’s Q150 celebrations.

Health Minister Stephen Robertson said the travelling display, developed in collaboration with the Australian Medical Association Queensland and the Queensland Nurses Union, would tour the state in a celebration of Queensland Health’s history.

“The travelling display will feature photos and information showcasing some of Queensland’s most significant health milestones,” he said.

“It will tell the story of the evolution of health care facilities in Queensland and include profiles of leaders in health care.

“Images of Queensland Health’s heritage buildings will also be on display because of the important role they’ve played in the state’s 150-year history.”

Mr Robertson said local events are planned at some sites to support the display.

“Queensland Health facilities have been an important component of the social and built environment since the construction of the first hospital in Moreton Bay in the late 1820s,” he said.

“In 19th century Queensland, the presence of a hospital in a town or settlement was regarded as evidence of a ‘civilised’ community.

“The evolution of Queensland Health buildings over the years from pavilion plan hospitals with open air wards to modern hospital design will provide a fascinating walk through the history of the state.”

Scheduled events at hospitals and in the community will include Open Days, barbecues, exhibitions of historical materials and other community based events.

The Queensland Health Q150 Travelling Display will commence its tour on February 9.
