Shine announces new Gold Coast Magistrate

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Kerry Shine today announced the appointment of Gold Coast based barrister Kerry Magee to the Southport Magistrates Court.

Mr Shine said Magistrate Magee had been a local legal practitioner for more than 25 years and had mainly practised in the area of litigation.

“For more than 10 years Ms Magee served as a solicitor in private practice on the Gold Coast before being admitted as a barrister in April, 1994,” Mr Shine said.

Mr Shine said Magistrate Magee had been the Vice President at the Gold Coast Bar Association since 2005.

“Magistrate Magee's role as Magistrate of the Southport Magistrates Court will become effective from tomorrow,” Mr Shine said.

“I congratulate Magistrate Magee on her appointment to this important and critical role in the Queensland justice system and I’m confident she will serve the people of the Gold Coast and the justice system well.

“Magistrate Magee’s experience in litigation, particularly more recently in commercial and estate litigation gives her a breadth of knowledge for her new role.”

The Southport Magistrates Court heard almost 3,000 civil and 48,157 criminal matters in the past year.
