Shine announces new Supreme Court Judge

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Kerry Shine today announced the appointment of a well-known Queensland legal figure, Peter Lyons QC to the Supreme Court.
Mr Shine said Justice Lyons – a well-known senior legal expert in Queensland for more than three decades – would join his wife, the Honourable Justice Ann Lyons in serving on the Supreme Court of Queensland.
Justice Lyons position within the trial division will become effective from tomorrow, following the recent appointment of Justice Chesterman to the Court of Appeal.
“I congratulate Justice Lyons on his appointment to this vital and critical role in the Queensland justice system and I’m confident he will serve the people of Queensland and the justice system well,” Mr Shine said.
“Justice Lyons has notably practised in a number of areas of the law including administrative, contract, equity, planning and environment and property law in both trial and appellate courts.
“His Honour has held a number of senior legal and management positions including former President of the Bar Association of Queensland in 2005-06.
“He has also presented a number conference papers in areas relating to town planning, local government, civil procedure and commercial law.
“Justice Lyons brings a depth of knowledge and a wealth of experience to this important role.”
