Real Queensland holiday snaps selected to promote state
More than 6000 images of Queensland taken by holidaymakers themselves were entered in a Tourism Queensland photographic competition last year, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said today.
Ms Boyle said the four month Eye on Q competition was part of Tourism Queensland’s innovative WOW! Queensland campaign which promoted Queensland experiences from a holidaymaker’s personal perspective.
“The competition encouraged Queensland holidaymakers to submit their favourite holiday photos through a new Eye on Q media player,” she said.
“The campaign and competition generated fantastic interest with over 36,000 visitors to the campaign website and more than 6000 photo submissions.”
Ms Boyle said the photo submissions were judged by a panel of Queensland Tourism representatives.
“Colin McLoud, a Cairns and Gold Coast resident, was the winner for his photo Surfers’ Delight,” she said.
“The judges felt the image typified an iconic Queensland experience from a holidaymaker’s personal perspective.
“As the winner, Mr McLoud was lucky to receive $10,000 worth of Queensland holiday vouchers, courtesy of Tourism Queensland and Blue Holidays so hopefully he’ll be able to take a lot more fabulous Queensland photos.”
Ten additional images received judges’ commendations.
Ms Boyle said many of the stunning Queensland images which were submitted as part of the competition would be used this year by Tourism Queensland in the promotion of Queensland’s destinations and experiences.
“The interactive competition was a digital marketing first for Tourism Queensland and allowed us to truly personalise Queensland through the eyes of our holidaymakers,” she said.
“It shows us what Queensland experiences really capture people’s hearts and will help us to better market Queensland as a tourist destination.”
