Charters Towers benefits from Blueprint for the Bush funding – Pitt
The Lions Club of Charters Towers will receive $62,000 in funding towards the purchase and construction of a new community and emergency response vehicle.
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt today announced the funding through the State Government’s Blueprint for the Bush initiative.
Mr Pitt will be in north Queensland this weekend, along with the Premier, Cabinet colleagues and senior public servants, for the Bligh Government’s two-day Community Cabinet meeting.
The meeting provides residents of the Townsville and Burdekin areas to meet with the Premier, Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries on their own turf.
Mr Pitt said the Lions Club’s new vehicle would be a valuable community asset for Charters Towers and across the north Queensland region.
“The Lions Club has a strong volunteer base and can use the new van to raise funds for the community and provide much-needed refreshments to rapid-response personnel in the event of an emergency, be it bushfire, flooding or cyclone,” Mr Pitt said.
“It will also provide essential catering services at amateur races, annual shows, community events and motor shows in Charters Towers and nearby communities, and will be available on a hire-out basis.”
Mr Pitt said the Blueprint for the Bush’s Our Place Our Future initiative provides rural and remote communities with the resources to strengthen their capacity to shape their future.
“The State Government is strongly committed to building strong and sustainable communities across rural and remote Queensland,” Mr Pitt said.
"One of the major goals of the Blueprint for the Bush program is for communities to be viable and strong so it is important that they have access to funding initiatives such as these.”
