The Honourable Warren Pitt
Safer, smoother ride ahead on northern section of Gateway Motorway
A busy section of the Gateway Motorway on Brisbane's northside will be given a facelift to boost safety and provide a smoother ride for motorists.
Queensland Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt and Federal Member for Petrie Yvette D’Ath announced today that Allen's Asphalt had won a $5.4 million contract for the asphalting work.
"This project will take place on an 8.6km section of the Gateway Motorway on Brisbane's busy northside," Ms D’Ath said.
"The motorway carries a huge volume of traffic every day, upwards of 55,000 vehicles, and this project will give motorists a safer, smoother ride.
"The Australian Government is funding this project, as the Gateway Motorway is part of the AusLink national network."
Mr Pitt said the works would be carried out both northbound and southbound, starting just north of the Nudgee Road overpass and extending to the Bracken Ridge Road overpass.
"This work will provide a dense-graded asphalt overlay with subsequent linemarking to be undertaken when the project is finished, expected to be by mid-April 2009,'' he said.
"Work is due to start in early February. I ask motorists to be patient and show consideration to roadworkers during the construction period."
