Minister applauds tireless central Queenslander

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt today acknowledged the exceptional contribution of a Longreach resident to her community after she was awarded with an Order of Australia Medal for her outstanding work in rural and regional communities.

Mrs Barbara Anderson – a Ministerial Community Forum Member for the Fitzroy/Central West region, a Blueprint for the Bush ambassador and a resident of Longreach – was honoured in this year’s Australia Day awards with an Order of Australia Medal.

Mr Pitt said the award recognised Mrs Anderson’s outstanding achievement and service.

“I congratulate Barbara on her dedicated work with rural and regional communities, which is supported through her involvement with the Blueprint for the Bush and the Ministerial Regional Community Forums,” Mr Pitt said.

“Barbara has worked tirelessly to help her local community.

“Her selfless contributions have made a big difference to communities in central western Queensland, particularly through her work with Anglicare for families affected by drought, financial and mental heath issues.

“Barbara is one of those shining examples of commitment to community that makes us all proud to be Queenslanders.

“We are very proud that she has chosen to support these important government initiatives as a forum member and as a Blueprint for the Bush ambassador.

“She is helping us to achieve more liveable, sustainable and prosperous communities.”
