Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson

Arts Minister Rod Welford and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson today announced a significant makeover of the popular Dinosaur Garden at Queensland Museum South Bank.

Mr Wilson said a partnership between the Queensland Museum and ENERGEX would see the Dinosaur Garden redeveloped to include interactive, sustainability-themed exhibits.

“The new hands-on exhibits will demonstrate how we can all make smarter energy choices,” Mr Wilson said.

“The redeveloped display will also give a history of energy and promote electrical safety.

“This project offers a unique and innovative way to communicate positive and proactive energy messages to the wider community.”

Mr Welford said the much-loved Tyrannosaurus-rex and Triceratops would be retained in the redeveloped space.

“Over the past 20 years the Dinosaur Garden has been a popular attraction at Queensland Museum South Bank, welcoming more than 10 million visitors,” Mr Welford said.

“As well as providing an opportunity for close encounters with dinosaurs, the new display will also promote sustainability – a very pressing and important issue.

“With school back this week the Queensland Museum is encouraging all children to suggest a name for the redeveloped space. Simply visit the Museum or go online to submit your entry.”

Applications to name the new display can be submitted at www.southbank.qm.qld.gov.au.

The Dinosaur Garden will be closed from Wednesday 28 January 2009 for construction, with the new exhibition opening in time for the 2009 Easter school holidays.
