Vulnerable women and children in Logan get crucial support

Communities Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr has announced $491,000 in funding for the Logan-based Working Against Violence Support Service which helps women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.

“The service offers counselling, referrals to refuges, court support services and education and support to both women and children to help them break the cycle of abuse,” she said.

“Assistance can also be given to women to apply for domestic violence protection orders in the Magistrates Court.”

The Working Against Violence Support Service works closely with the Queensland Police Service, receiving referrals from police where consent is given, and providing training to first-year officers on how to deal with domestic violence incidents.

State Member for Woodridge Desley Scott welcomed the funding boost.

“This is a really important service helping some of our families experiencing a very traumatic time in their lives,” she said.

“The groups staff do an amazing job, and I know families who have used this service to stop the violence will agree they deserve praise for a job well down.

“We can never stop promoting the message that domestic and family violence can be stopped – take action to change your life and give your kids a better future.
