NRW executive director receives Australia Day honour for water reform achievements
Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace today congratulated one of Queensland’s senior public servants on receiving an Australia Day Public Service Medal (PSM).
Mr Wallace said Greg Claydon, Executive Director of Strategic Water Initiatives in the Department of Natural Resources and Water, received the honour for his contribution to water planning and management in the state of Queensland.
“This is a wonderful accolade for a man who has had a significant influence in ensuring Queensland’s sustainable water management for the future,” Mr Wallace said.
“Greg has made a significant and lasting contribution to Queensland water policy development over the past two decades – especially during the most recent period of significant reform Australia-wide.
“As Executive Director of Strategic Water Initiatives, Greg has worked with government to develop statewide strategic water policy and legislation that has placed Queensland at the forefront of responsible water management.
“Queensland is now leading the way in ensuring a balance between the protection of the environment and the needs of our water users and the community.”
Mr Wallace said Greg has established a distinguished career as public servant since 1974.
His previous roles have included General Manager for Water Planning and Regional Director for South-west Queensland, in the then Department of Natural Resources and Mines.
“Greg continues to show great leadership in the field of natural resources and water,” Mr Wallace said.
“He is currently Queensland’s representative on the National Water Initiative Committee, he was Queensland Deputy Commissioner for the Murray Darling Basin Initiative, and has been the Queensland Commissioner for the Dumaresq Barwon Border Rivers Commission.
“Greg’s dedication and expertise have ensured this state continues to deliver world-class planning frameworks. His work makes a real difference to the conservation of one of our most precious resources – water.
“I congratulate Greg on this prestigious award. This is well-deserved recognition of one of our most dedicated and talented public servants.”
Mr Claydon, of Toowoomba, was one of 11 Queensland public servants to be honoured with the medal, which is part of the official Australian honours system.
