Bligh Government to upgrade Cooroy-Noosa Road

The Bligh Government has awarded a $4.7 million contract to Neumann Contractors to upgrade Cooroy-Noosa Road between Swift Drive and Hayward Road West at Lake MacDonald.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the work would involve strengthening and widening a 2.16km section of the road to improve safety and driving conditions for road users.

Mr Pitt said an average of about 9900 vehicles a day travelled on the Cooroy-Noosa Road, which was also very popular with cyclists.

“The upgrade is part of a $6.5 million project that involves widening the road to provide two 3.5-metre lanes with a two-metre shoulder on each side,” Mr Pitt said.

“This will significantly improve safety for motorists and cyclists using this section of road.”

Motorists can also expect a more comfortable journey once the project is complete, with a new asphalt surface being laid as part of the upgrade.

“The new surface will be more resistant to wear and tear, which means it will stay in better condition for longer and cost less to maintain,” Mr Pitt said.

“The upgrade is scheduled to start in the next few weeks and should be complete by the end of the year, weather permitting.

“The new, widened road will be offset to the south of the existing road alignment to minimise any impact on the adjacent forest during construction.”
