Minister hails Maroochydore makeover a huge success
New public facilities at Cotton Tree Park and Cornmeal Creek have helped rejuvenate the heart of Maroochydore and highlight the community’s links to the adjoining Maroochy River, Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said today.
Visiting the area today, Mr Pitt said the Cornmeal Creek Pedestrian Promenade and Cotton Tree Park redevelopment, a joint project with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, created an enviable public space for local residents.
"This project has involved the conversion of a car park into a new public area, the creation of a boardwalk and significant landscaping of Cotton Tree Park,” Mr Pitt said.
“Work on the Promenade has already involved the installation of park seats, timber day beds, bike racks and drinking fountains.
"I congratulate the council for its vision and acknowledge the hard work of so many dedicated locals to make this vision a reality for all Maroochydore residents."
Mr Pitt said the work was part of the Maroochydore Urban Improvement Strategy project and funded under the Queensland Government’s Regional Centres Program.
"The Regional Centres Program aims to help councils provide infrastructure and facilities that provide economic and social benefits to the surrounding communities,” he said.
“The Queensland Government has contributed $1.5 million to the costs of this project with additional work planned to be carried out in Cotton Tree Park.
“This additional work includes the installation of more playground equipment, park furniture, barbecues and artworks to help provide a practical and visually appealing facility for the whole community to enjoy.
“This is another example of the Bligh Government’s commitment to building strong and sustainable communities all around the state,” he said.
