New Bucasia boat ramp to improve safety, access and efficiency for boaties
Transport Minister John Mickel returned to North Mackay today to open the new Bucasia boat ramp.
Mr Mickel had inspected the ramp during the final stages of construction last year.
“This new two-lane ramp and fully sealed car and trailer park are a real boost to recreational boating facilities for North Mackay,” Mr Mickel said.
The ramp replaces an old unofficial ramp that needed significant maintenance work.
Mr Mickel said the new ramp would greatly improve the safety, accessibility and efficiency of boat launching, while the car park would provide all-weather access and accommodate up to 45 cars and trailers.
The car park also includes a pre-launching rigging area that will help reduce waiting times at the boat ramp.
Mr Mickel said the boat ramp was part of a $4 million commitment to new and improved boating facilities in 2008-09 for the region.
“The State Government’s investment in boating infrastructure in the Mackay and central Queensland region is part of a record spend this year on new funding for infrastructure and safety improvements for Queensland boaties,” Mr Mickel said.
“In 2008-2009, the Government will invest $29 million in the state’s recreational boating community, including more than $10 million for Maritime Safety Queensland services.
“This compares to the $21 million that will be received from vessel registration fees during the same period.”
Mackay Regional Council Mackay Regional Council built the boat ramp and car park.
