Daniel Morcombe $1 million reward posters go up in Queensland’s Prisons

Reward posters for information about missing teenager Daniel Morcombe are now being displayed in Queensland's Prisons and are being rolled out into Parole and Probation offices across the state.

Corrective Services Minister Judy Spence today said that all Prisons and prison farms are displaying the posters and that they are currently being rolled out to Probation & Parole offices. The posters offer a $1 Million reward for new information about the abduction and suspected murder of the missing Sunshine Coast teenager.

"It is an unfortunate fact of life that often it is prisoners and criminals themselves who may possess information about other currently unsolved crimes," said Ms Spence.

“We hope this poster for an increased reward being put up in Queensland’s prisons and in our parole and probation offices may trigger something for a prisoner or offender.

“Even the smallest piece of information may be sufficient to give police a vital breakthrough.

“Prisoners at all prisons can use the prisoner telephone system to call Crime Stoppers direct as well.” said Ms Spence.

Daniel's parents, Bruce and Denise Morcombe said they wished to thank all Queenslanders for their continued help in the search for their missing son.

"Not a day goes by when we don't think of Daniel," they said.

"We thank everyone who's helped in our long search, the Queensland Government, the private donors behind this reward, the Queensland police service and the local community."

"Every effort may help. There may be some person in a prison or who goes into a Parole & Probation office who may know something. I beg them to come forward with even the smallest piece of information. It may be all that is needed to solve this," said the Morcombes.

The $250,000 reward already offered by the Queensland Government has had $750,000 added to it by Private sponsors. The private component of the reward is available until 31 May 2009.

Daniel disappeared on Sunday 7 December 2003 while waiting to catch a bus on the Nambour Connection Road near the Kiel Mountain Road overpass.

Indemnity from prosecution will also be recommended to anyone who did not actually commit any crime in relation to this disappearance.

Anyone with information which could assist police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
