Safety upgrade to Moonjarre Crossing
Resurfacing works have been completed at Mirraparoo Creek on the Bulloo Developmental Road, providing a wider, smoother and safer crossing for road users in south west Queensland.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Main Roads and Local Government Annastacia Palaszczuk said the safety work, at Moonjarre Crossing, about 32 kilometres west of Cunnamulla, was completed on schedule last month (December).
The project was funded through the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program.
“This $500,000 project involved the installation of new culverts, the re-alignment of an existing curve and road widening to improve safety along the Type-2 road train route,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
The safety roadworks occurred over the creek, and were delivered on behalf of Main Roads by Paroo Shire Council.
“These improvements will play a large role in helping to make the floodway and roadside environment a lot safer for landowners and tourists travelling along this section of road,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“The additional width, road shoulder improvements and guide posts at the floodway will also help the large volume of heavy vehicle operators in the area, which account for about 32 per cent of all vehicle movements along the link.”
Mrs Palaszczuk congratulated the Paroo Shire for their hard work to complete the works efficiently and on time.
“This is another good example of Main Roads and local government working together to deliver important infrastructure and safety projects across rural and regional Queensland,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
The Safer Roads Sooner program uses revenue from camera-detected offences for upgrade works at specific roadside locations to help reduce roadside trauma and increase safety for all road users.
