Demountable renal unit arrives at Kingaroy Hospital
Kingaroy’s renal dialysis service has taken a major step forward, with the arrival of a demountable unit from Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Health Minister Stephen Robertson said the demountable unit would house a level one, nurse-assisted renal service.
“Kingaroy residents are on track to benefit from renal dialysis services in a significant boost for local health infrastructure,” he said.
“The arrival of this building is the next phase in our plan to have the service operational by mid-2009.
“Currently there are eight clients who travel out of the area several times per week to access this dialysis treatment.
“It’s anticipated that they will be able to access this service locally in mid-2009.
“This is a win for local community and a sign of the Bligh Government’s commitment to delivering Queenslanders first class health services.”
Mr Robertson said the new six-chair service would be located on the Kingaroy Hospital Campus next to the Farr Home Nursing care Unit.
“We’ve recruited a project officer to manage and guide the project to completion and the recruitment of staff is underway,” he said.
“We expect to start training the renal nurses and clinicians who will run the unit early this year.
“A steering committee has been established to oversee the establishment of this new service, including the furnishing of the unit.”
Mr Robertson said the new renal dialysis service would receive $603,000 in annual recurrent funding.
“I’d like to pay tribute to the Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary for raising about $50,000 to furnish the renal unit,” he said.
“The Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary works tirelessly to enhance local health services, and we appreciate its financial support in helping to deliver this new renal unit.
“Kingaroy residents continue to benefit from the efforts of the auxiliary, which does so much to deliver better health outcomes for locals.”
