Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts

Thank you to our dedicated ambulance and fire officers – working on Christmas Day

While families everywhere are enjoying their Christmas festivities, spare a thought for the 1,000 Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) officers and the 1,200 Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) officers on duty across the state.

Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said the dedicated professionals employed in the emergency service units were to be congratulated for providing a safety net for the Queensland residents.

“Last year over Christmas, our QAS units handled more than 1,300 call outs across Queensland,” he said.

“The QFRS was also hard at work, responding to 131 Triple-0 calls for help.

“As usual the Kemp Place fire crew will be visiting Royal Children's Hospital burns unit on Thursday to try and spread the Christmas cheer.”

Mr Roberts said that Christmas Day is like any other day for the QAS and QFRS. A full complement of staff is rostered for duty across Queensland.

“This is a very special time of the year, and all of our emergency service people will have an ear out for the phone in case they have to respond to any call out,” he said.

“On behalf of the people of Queensland, I want to thank all of our staff and volunteers for their commitment to safeguarding the community and for their involvement.

“We wish them and their families a safe and happy Christmas.”
