Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
Upgrade for Burleigh Heads Ambulance Station
The State Government has committed $1.4 million to upgrading the Burleigh Heads ambulance station.
The tender to refurbish the 26 year old station has been awarded to Q-Build.
Member for Burleigh Christine Smith said the revamp is needed to ensure the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) delivers efficient and modern operational services to locals and holiday makers.
“The refurbishment will accommodate all the functions of a new ambulance station, and will include a fully secured garage which will house all emergency vehicles.
“Work is expected to commence at the end of next month,” she said.
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said the upgrade was a part of the Bligh Government’s commitment to maintaining top class emergency services, especially in the midst of the global economic crisis.
“This financial year the Government will invest $31.2 million in two new ambulance stations and redeveloping or replacing 21 existing stations.
“The Government has also committed $16.9 million for 145 new ambulances across the state, and out of the 31 headed for the south east, 11 will be stationed on the Gold Coast.
“On top of that, an extra 250 ambulance officers will start work this financial year, with 10 on the Gold Coast.
“These investments demonstrate the Government’s commitment to employment growth and infrastructure in the current global economic climate,” he said.
