Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
$30 Million dollar investment in energy future
Energy supply to businesses and residents in South West Brisbane has been bolstered thanks to the completion of a $30 million, two-year project to replace Powerlink’s West Darra Substation.
Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said the newly built substation was all about ensuring Queensland’s energy infrastructure remains ahead of the game.
“Electricity demand in South East Queensland is booming and this will continue into the future,” Mr Wilson said.
“The Bligh Government is building tomorrow’s Queensland and providing the necessary infrastructure to meet future demand.”
Mr Wilson said the substation, which was about 40 years old, was replaced in two stages allowing electricity supply to be maintained to homes and businesses whilst construction work took place.
Member for Mt Ommaney Julie Attwood said the new substation will reinforce the high voltage electricity network in South West Brisbane.
“This project will deliver huge benefits for the people of Mt Ommaney and beyond,” Ms Attwood said.
“It’s all about reinforcing the region’s energy capacity and planning for future growth.
“The Bligh Government has a clear vision for Queensland’s future and we are getting on with the job.”
Ms Attwood said the last time the Liberals and Nationals were in power they left the state in darkness for four whole days.
“Whilst the LNP squabble amongst themselves and struggle to come up with any ideas, the Bligh Government is delivering for Queensland.
