There has been a strong interest in the Queensland Government’s ClimateSmart Home Service with demand stimulating up to 150 new jobs in Queensland.

Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation, Andrew McNamara, said that in just three weeks, more than 6,000 appointments have been taken for the ClimateSmart Home Service.

“The Government has responded to this outstanding show of commitment from Queenslanders by creating up to 150 new jobs to manage the demand from right across the State,” he said.

“The ClimateSmart Home Service will employ approximately 100 licensed electricians and plumbers and a further 50 customer service staff.

“Electricians have been recruited from all over the State, stimulating local economies where possible. The additional 50 customer service and ancillary staff are based in Brisbane.

“In these unprecedented economic times, this provides a timely boost for workers across Queensland, Mr McNamara said.

The ClimateSmart Home Service will help households reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by installing energy-saving devices.

“The service is a key plank in the Bligh Government’s Q2 vision for Queensland; promoting a strong, smart and green state.

“Commencing on 5 January 2009, it will be the largest household energy efficiency scheme of its kind in the country.”

Mr McNamara said that in these tough economic times, the service will deliver significant savings for households.

“A service like this would normally cost around $450. However, for just $50 the ClimateSmart Home Service has the potential to provide a huge 400 per cent return, or about $250 in energy savings annually, on combined water and electricity bills,” he said.

“The service will provide households with a range of energy efficient products, installed by an electrician.

“I encourage everyone to register for the ClimateSmart Home Service, it’s a great way to save the environment and put money back into the pockets of Queenslanders,” he said.

Appointments for the Service can be made online at www.climatesmarthome.com or by calling 13 2040.
