Communities and Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr announced a grant of $75,000 to allow the Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council undertake a project to boost the size and skills of its community services workforce.
Ms Nelson-Carr, said local councils provided diverse and vital services to their communities.
"It is important local Councils have a properly staffed and skilled community services workforce in these challenging times,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
Local State Member for Cook Jason O’Brien welcomed the funding announcement.
“The Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council will use the grant of $75,000 for a Community Services Workforce Development Project to improve its service to residents and the community.”
Mr O’Brien said the Bligh Government was committed to supporting organisations to improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
“Assisting organisations like the Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council to be as strong as possible means they can continue their essential work,” he said.
“We want them in a position where they can focus on what they do best: applying local knowledge to find local solutions to local issues.”
Ms Nelson-Carr said seven rural community organisations across the state will share Building Rural Links funding of more than $337,000 for projects that build partnerships within the community sector and strengthen local services.
