The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Innisfail community organisation awarded $17,500 grant
Communities and Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr has announced a grant of $17,500 to boost funding for the Innisfail Youth and Family Care organisation.
The funding will help the Innisfail Youth and Family Care organisation to further support Cassowary Coast residents fleeing domestic and family violence.
Ms Nelson-Carr said the organisation will use the Bligh Government grant to pay for operating costs incurred by volunteers and workers who support young people and families at risk in the community.
State Member for Mulgrave Warren Pitt welcomed the announcement of the grant.
“Innisfail’s Youth and Community Care is a shining example of how community organisations help improve the lives of regional Queenslanders,” Mr Pitt said.
"The Bligh Government is committed to supporting organisations that want to provide these vital local services, especially those that rely on volunteers,” he said.
"It is important that people affected by domestic and family violence have access to support services in the Cassowary Coast region.
“People, especially those accompanied by children need to know they have a properly equipped, comfortable and safe haven to go to for protection and assistance.”
The funding is part of the Building Rural Links program which supports projects that build partnerships within the community sector and strengthen local services.
Ms Nelson-Carr said seven rural community organisations across the State will share more than $337,000 in Building Rural Links funding.
“The Building Rural Links initiative is contributing to our Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland vision to create safe, caring communities,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
