New Site Supervisor licensing transition period ends
The transition period for the Building Services Authority's new Site Supervisor licence ends today.
Minister for Public Works, Housing and ICT Robert Schwarten strongly urges employees who currently supervise building work to lodge their completed application by close of business today.
“The new grade of licence commenced on 21 December 2007 with the aim of lifting supervision standards in the building industry.
“After today applicants will no longer be able to can rely on a declaration from their employer to gain the new licence,” Mr Schwarten said.
"Today is the last chance for those who have not already done so to lodge their completed application with the BSA.
"This transition period was designed to recognise people with existing skills in site supervision to make it easier for them to obtain the appropriate licence.
“After today, all new site supervisor applicants will be required to obtain, or prove, that they have the necessary qualifications,” he said.
More than 4,300 supervisors have already taken advantage of the transition period.
BSA licences more than 77,000 builders, trade contractors and designers.
