The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr

Salt and spice for upcoming State disability conference

Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr has announced keynote speakers Bernard Salt and Robyn Moore would kick off a lively debate at the two-day Shared Visions disability conference in Brisbane.

“These talented communicators will help conference delegates think creatively to develop new approaches to delivering services, creating better networks and improving the lives of those with a disability,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“The conference attracts a really diverse range of people from academic experts, those in the services sector, carers and people with a disability to explore better life outcomes for Queenslanders,” she said.

“Among the program’s topical themes are assisting older parent carers, promoting social inclusion, Young People in Residential Aged Care, services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and best practice.”

People with expertise or an interest in disability issues have until January 30 to submit abstracts/summaries for consideration as presentations at the conference.

“We want contemporary and innovative approaches or best practice models right across disabilities,” said the Minister.

The Queensland Shared Visions conference will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on April 2 and 3.

Registration for the conference is now open, with conference fees ranging from $50-$220. It is free for carers accompanying a registered person with a disability.
