Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
The people of Coolum and its surrounds can expect better service delivery with the unveiling of the new Coolum ambulance station, and a new $180,000 ambulance.
Minister for Emergency Services Neil Roberts said the $2.1 million facility is delivering on an election commitment.
“The Sunshine Coast has a burgeoning population of almost 300,000 people, all of whom depend on the Queensland Ambulance Service to provide emergency care when it is needed most,” he said.
“The new Coolum ambulance station has been strategically placed adjacent to the Sunshine Motorway to provide quick access to the immediate service area, which stretches north to Marcus Beach, south to Mudjimba, and west to Yandina Creek,” he said.
The station has been built all on one level, improving safety by replacing the previous two-storey facility.
The station was also built with a designated training room to give staff an area where they can further their professional development and work efficiently and comfortably.
The new station has been built above the Q100 flood level, and will be accessible to ambulances in the event of localised flooding.
This financial year, the State Government has allocated $31.2 million to build 23 new or redeveloped ambulance stations across the state.
But there is more good news for the people of Coolum.
Minister Roberts has also handed over the keys to a $180,000 Mercedes Sprinter ambulance.
The replacement vehicle has been on the road since November.
It’s a part of a $16.9 million commitment to commission 145 new ambulances across the state in 2008-09.
The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) allocates new vehicles within regions based on the age, usage and mechanical condition of the vehicles to be replaced. QAS has a comprehensive vehicle maintenance program with scheduled servicing.
“This is another example of the Bligh Government’s commitment to ensure the people of Queensland are provided with best possible ambulance service,” he said.
