Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Paul Lucas
CAREFUL PLANNING FOR BROMELTON
The State Government is committed to carefully planning a proposed industrial estate at Bromelton, near Beaudesert.
Acting Infrastructure and Planning Minister John Mickel said studies are underway to determine what types of industries will be suitable in the Bromelton State Development Area.
“No decision has been made and people can rest assured this site will be carefully designed with the environment and nearby communities in mind,” said Mr Mickel.
“There will be a buffer zone inside the State Development Area around all industrial activities.
“In the past, we have seen industrial estates located too close to residential areas.
“This is about having due regard for residential communities in surrounding areas and ensuring industry is appropriately located.
“I want to make it clear that any business at Bromelton would also have to obtain the relevant operational and environmental approvals from the council, state or federal governments.
“The main attraction of Bromelton has always been its access to the interstate rail line, this estate will be an ideal location for a road/rail freight terminal.
“The end result will be jobs for the Logan and Scenic Rim Regional Council areas, where the population is predicted to grow to around half a million people over the next 20 years.”
The Queensland Water Commission will provide specialist advice on the potential uses for this site and the controls that may be needed.
“The quality of our drinking supplies is already highly regulated and controlled and this proposed industrial area will not be allowed to impact on these standards,” said Mr Mickel.
“Over the next several months the Coordinator-General will finalise a draft development scheme for the Bromelton SDA which will outline exactly what uses the area could support.
“That draft, when completed, will be open for public consultation.”
