Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
The community would play an important part in safety improvements to the intersection of Ipswich-Boonah Road and Bands Road at Goolman, Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said today.
Mr Pitt said Main Roads was proposing to extend existing stormwater culverts under Ipswich-Boonah Road and relocate two power poles to improve road conditions at the intersection.
He said the $740,000 upgrade would improve safety for motorists.
"More than 3700 motorists use this intersection each day and Main Roads is committed to ensuring their safety," said Mr Pitt.
"There have been previous incidents at this intersection where motorists have lost control and come into contact with the power poles. Relocating the power poles further away from the traffic will help prevent future incidents."
Mr Pitt said community input was vital to the project.
"We encourage all community members to get involved and provide feedback on the proposed upgrade," said Mr Pitt.
"To complement other works, it is also proposed that electricity lines be relocated and new linemarking and directional signage be installed."
The consultation period for the project closes on Friday, 19 December 2008.
