Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
New bridge completed on Running Creek Road at Rathdowney
The new $2.4 million bridge at crossing number seven on Running Creek Road near Rathdowney is now complete.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the new six-metre-wide, four-span, single-lane concrete bridge at crossing number seven had been competed, after the crossings at number six and seven were washed away in the January 2008 flooding.
"As part of the construction project, Main Roads construction arm RoadTek, replaced the bridge and upgraded the bridge approaches," Mr Pitt said.
"This is an excellent response by Main Roads and RoadTek to completely replace this bridge over a relatively short period following the catastrophic flood event earlier this year."
Mr Pitt said Running Creek Road continued to provide a crucial link between Rathdowney and Kyogle, across the border in New South Wales.
"Work has also started on a new bridge at crossing number six (Taffee Bridge) with piling works currently underway," Mr Pitt said.
"Construction of the new six-metre-wide, five-span, single-lane concrete bridge will start in early next year and is expected to be completed in mid-2009, weather permitting."
Revegetation in the vicinity of both bridges will be carried out in mid-2009.
