State provides $226,000 to help ensure Atherton’s water supply

The Queensland Government has provided $226,000 to Tablelands Regional Council to install a pump and rising main from the Gargan Lane bore to the Twelfth Avenue reservoir.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the project would help improve water quality, as well as improving the reliability of water supply.

“This will have a significant benefits for the water supply to Atherton residents,” Mr Pitt said.

“This project involves the installation of new pump at the Gargan Lane bore and the installation of 1.8 kilometres of rising main connecting the bore to the council reservoir.

“Tapping into this additional water supply will also help Tablelands Regional Council cater for increased demand for water as the region experiences population growth.

“This is an important community project that has significant long-term benefits and the State Government is pleased to assist council with the cost of these works.”

Mr Pitt said the funding had been provided through the state’s Water and Sewerage Program, which provides local governments with subsidies of up to 50 per cent of the cost of essential water and sewerage infrastructure.
