The Honourable Warren Pitt
The Queensland Government has provided $40,000 to the Gympie Regional Council to subsidise the installation and refurbishment of critical water infrastructure.
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the project would help secure future water requirements for the ratepayers of the Gympie region.
“By shifting from surface water to bore water, we are better positioned to secure the water supply for the people of Goomeri,” Mr Pitt said.
“The drought has had a significant impact on water supplies throughout the state, including the Gympie region, and taking measures such as this can alleviate the shortage.”
Mr Pitt said the new and refurbished bores would provide the Gympie region with another option for sourcing secure, clean water.
“This is just one example of how the Bligh Government is exploring every option to ensure that all Queenslanders have access to water.”
The funding has been provided through the State Government’s Water and Sewerage Program, which provides local governments with subsidies of up to 50 per cent of the cost of essential water and sewerage infrastructure.
