Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Safety improvements for Eumundi-Kenilworth Road
Eumundi-Kenilworth Road will receive improvements worth $300,000 improvements as part of Main Roads’ commitment to further safeguarding Sunshine Coast roads.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the project would improve the reliability and efficiency of the road by providing better delineation and visibility.
“As part of this Safer Roads Sooner project, Main Roads will invest in new guide posts, warning and directional signs, and remove vegetation to improve visibility at intersections,” Mr Pitt said.
“Reflective raised pavement markers will also be installed after a final seal is done to strengthen the road’s pavement."
The project is funded as part of the Safer Roads Sooner program, which provides low-cost, high-benefit solutions to improve Queensland roads.
Mr Pitt said this project demonstrated Main Roads’ ongoing commitment to maintaining safety and driving conditions for this road.
“This safety project is in addition to the $1.5 million maintenance program that has been underway for the past 12 months,” he said.
During the past 10 years, Main Roads has invested more than $18 million to upgrade the two Belli Creek crossings and reseal the road from Strong Lane to Browns Creek Road, with another $15.4 million for additional high priority works.
Main Roads will continue to work with the Member for Nicklin, Peter Wellington, to ensure the community concerns are addressed.
The project on Eumundi-Kenilworth Road will start this week and is expected to be finished in early 2009.
