20 new fire and ambulance stations

The Bligh Government is continuing to build for the future, with Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts announcing 20 new fire and ambulance stations have been built since July 2007.

The good news was revealed in parliament today.

Minister for Emergency Services Neil Roberts said 18 new ambulance stations have been built at locations all over Queensland.

“We’ve built ambulance stations at Aramac, Balmoral, Birkdale, Carina, Carmila, Coolum, Oakey, Murgon, Gemfields, Highfields, Roma, and Warwick”, he said.

“The Government has also committed $31.2 million dollars this financial year, to commence or complete two new ambulance stations and 21 replacement, refurbished or redeveloped facilities”, he said.

Works are also underway on Moura, Tamborine Mountain, Townsville, and Weipa ambulance stations and design has commenced on Ipswich, Mitchelton, Redcliffe and Tully ambulance stations

Tenders are about to be called on Burleigh Heads, Clermont, Duaringa, Julia Creek, Mitchell and Mount Morgan ambulance stations.

Pre-design and land negotiations are continuing on Ashgrove and Springfield ambulance station projects.

Six new fire stations have been built at Eatons Hill, Highfields, Lowood, Malanda, and Yungburra. The Burpengary and Kippa-Ring stations are expected to be open next month.

“$20.9 million has also been committed this financial year, to commence or complete three new, and 11 replacement or redeveloped fire stations,” Minister Roberts said.

“Works are well underway on the Goondiwindi and Tin Can Bay fire stations, tenders are out for the Bollon and Southport fire station projects with works scheduled to commence later this year”.

Land for the new Nerang station has been secured, and design has started for the Nerang, Nambour, Redland Bay, Pullenvale and Woodridge fire stations.
